Object Description
From our collection of Japanese metalwork from the late 19th Century, this attractive Komai-style Damascene dish signed Kyoto Oto and with a main panel depicting a rural scene of a thatched cottage on an island. In the scene, figures are scene at work, crossing bridges, fishing and going about their day. The thatched roof of the cottage, out buildings and a pair of song-birds picked out with onlaid Gold decoration. The dish is edged with six smaller panels depicting gourds, Lotus flowers and other flora and fauna. These sit on an attractive Damascene ground with several different and complex patterns in inlaid Silver.
