French, Late 19th Century
Clock: height 52cm, width 31cm, depth 12cm
Candelabra: height 55cm, width 32cm, depth 9cm
Made in France in the late nineteenth century in the popular Japonisme style, this very fine three-piece clock set consists of a central circular clock flanked by a pair of candelabra. The decoration of the clock consists of a pierced foliate border, and it is surmounted by a patinated and naturalistic background, which is adorned with floral motifs, birds, and a childlike figure. Atop, there is a dragon finial.
The candelabra are similarly decorated, with longer, stemmed necks, and smaller bodies, with a pair of branches jutting off on either side. This set constitutes an elegant decorative set, combining the skills and quality of late nineteenth century French craftsmanship with a vibrant, striking Japanese air and character.
