Object Description
A large amboyna, stained glass, marble, and ormolu mounted centre table
French, 19th Century
Height 73cm, width 170cm, depth 140cm
This unique and vibrant piece, replete with a radiant and richly colourful upper surface, is a large, low-sitting wide French centre table. Crafted from a variety of materials, richly veneered amboyna wood forms the main body of the piece, while a series of four pairs of grey marble legs stand between the base and the upper surface. The table is also adorned with ormolu mounts, on the base, at the food of the marble legs, and in a set of four inlaid wave-pattern decorative panels around the rim. A protective glass layer sits atop the stained glass elements, which is formed of a fractured array of red, green, and blue sections, interspersed with depictions of hunters and dogs. The glass is signed ‘Mormesse.’
