Please see Arenski, Daniels and Daniels, ‘Swiss Carvings, The Art of the ‘Black Forest’ 1820-1940’ Woodbridge 2005, pp. 88-90, for several similar studies of eagles dating from 1870 to 1890. One is carved by Alfred Stähli and the others by the famed Ruef brothers.
