Sarouk (sometimes spelt Saroukh) is a city west of Kashan. They are fine, bold rugs with hard backs; and it’s not unusual to find them with breaks and tears because of this hardness. The colours are usually strong, contrasts great. They are made with a Sehna knot and are usually very fine. The Sarouk and Kashan may be distinguished from all others by their short velvety nap; dark rich colours; fields of graceful, foliated stalks and floral forms resting on concentric medallions; and the fine, firm texture of the weave.
A beautiful, nigh on antique, piece providing cracking value.
