Object Description

The beautifully evocative rectangular wall mirror, having a ripple moulded frame, later painted, enclosing the original oxidised mercury mirror plate with extensive and wonderful natural foxing, the whole surviving from the last quarter of the nineteenth century.

Object History

Unknown.

Object Literature

Of a super size and with its wonderfully un-contrived plate, the like proves harder to find by the day.

Object Condition

The mirror is in decorative and naturally aged condition and is attractive in its originality and the fact it has not been meddled with. The good period glass plate is foxed beautifully, with the bottom section of the original frame having a section cut out, presumingly to fit on a specific mantel piece. It could possibly be dry-scraped back to the original paint but the top coat isn’t offensive.
