Object Description

The beautifully evocative rectangular wall mirror in the neoclassical manner, at five feet, enclosing a mercury mirror plate with extensive foxing, being housed in a cream painted and gilded gesso moulded frame with symmetrical spandrel mouldings within a moulded outer and acanthus leaf inner border, the whole surviving from the second quarter of nineteenth century Italy.

Object History

Unknown.

Object Literature

There are no backboards present and this is reflected in the asking price. If wanting some fitted we can do this at cost.

A stunning statement mirror that can be used in portrait or landscape and one that is sure to draw many an appreciative eye.

Object Condition

The mirror is in decorative and naturally aged condition and is attractive in its originality and the fact it has not been meddled with. The good period glass plate is foxed beautifully, with some very small losses to the frame which has the attractive pink bole showing through the gilding. There are three fittings present for hanging (previously hung in landscape form) and it would require proper installation due to the significant weight.
