Object Description
The sparse and quietly expressive standing nude study depicting a female figure shown from behind, rendered in a mixture of monotype and charcoal on a large sheet of wove paper, the artist allowing broad tonal sweeps to sit alongside sharply linear passages in the legs and lower back, the head is handled with the soft, muffled tonality characteristic of monotype pulling, while the legs and torso carry more incisive, hand-worked marks; the whole signed indistinctly at lower right “W. Moorman. 1977” and inscribed beneath in pencil “To Laurie & Kathy with love Bill” and surviving from the fourth quarter of the twentieth century.
