Object Description
A very imposing and finely worked pair of 15th / 16th century wrought iron andirons, the hexagonal upper section leading to a castilated knop, the lower section forged and split to form the anterior Gothic motif and the rear supporting foot. Each enhanced with stylised dragons heads supporting Gothic trefoils and the remnants of Tudor roses in sheet iron and the very strong finials which may represent a clenched fist in a gauntlet – a symbol of power, strength and supremacy.
