Object Description
A large Viennese antique cold painted bronze bird model, attr. Bergman
Austrian, c.1910
Height 18cm, width 21cm, depth 7cm
This delightful piece is a cold painted, relatively large, bronze bird model, made in Vienna in the early twentieth century and attributable to Franz Xaver Bergman. A highly regarded maker of such pieces, Bergman (Austrian, 1861-1936), worked on a range of pieces from Orientalist to figurative, erotic, and animal or animalia works, with the latter occupying perhaps the most well-known and beloved part of his oeuvre.
The cold painted bronze technique was a favourite of Austrian foundries around the turn of the twentieth century, with Bergman in particular known as a leading practitioner. This charming piece is full of quirky curious character, as is to be expected, and makes for a delightful interior addition for the interested collector.
