Object Description

The original painted pine carcass showing the wonderful original line decorated soft pea green paint worn thoroughly and consistently with age, having a shaped gallery back over a single frieze drawer with two brass knob handles, the whole raised on elegant square tapering legs, surviving from late Regency period England.

Object History

Unknown.

Object Literature

The Georgian period was rather a long one, so the paint colours naturally changed over time, becoming increasingly more and more decorative as they moved more into the regency period of opulence and excess. The formality of the line decoration here gives the piece a measure of composure and the linear pattern lends it a slender elegance.

A very pretty and elegant example of period painted furniture.

Object Condition

The carcass has a wonderful patina, with a host of character commensurate with its age and use with some marking as pictured to its top. She remains steady, though lightweight, with the brass knob handles being later replacements though now having a nice aged patina in their own right.
