Object Description

The late Victorian period pine carcass of relatively large size, formerly having been used as a food or larder cupboard with one flank being air ventilated with mesh, the other being panelled, showing the original period black painted finish now timeworn with age and use, the two plank top with canted front corners showing much of the madder rose base colour, to two fielded panelled doors opening to reveal an arrangement of five shelves, surviving from the zeniths of the nineteenth century.

Object History

Object Literature

Once frequenting a scullery or pantry, this is a versatile and practical piece that is wonderfully decorative to boot.

Object Condition

The cupboard is in operable order with the doors fastening via the catches to the top, the handles match but may be later. We have carried out some remedial work structurally to ensure she is in a good stable condition. There are chipped losses, and lots of characterful markings.
