A Louis XVI Style Gilt-Bronze Mounted Mahogany Fauteuil de Bureau, By François Linke.

With canework and leather squab cushion.

Stamped to reverse of bronze foot mount ‘LINKE’.

Listed in the Linke archive as Index Number 1207: ‘Fauteuil L.XVI transition, acajou Siege et dossier, bronze ciselés et dorés’.

It is rare to find desk chairs by François Linke. This example is large and comfortable with beautiful channelled mahogany frame embellished with gilt-bronze rocaille mounts.

Object History

François Linke (1855 – 1946) was the most important Parisian cabinet maker of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, and possibly the most sought after cabinet maker of his period.
