Object History

This fine petit bureau plat or writing table has exceptional gilt-bronze mounts. The table is designed in the Louis XVI style, taking inspiration form the work of the famous ébéniste de roi Jean- Henri Riesener.

The writing table is inspired by the celebrated bureau plat supplied by Jean-Henri Riesener in 1784 for the Cabinet Intérieur du Roi at Fontainebleau. Zwiener not only modifies the general form of Riesener’s design but in keeping with the prevalent style of the late 19th century incorporates fine neo-classical Jasperware plaques.
