Object Description

A very good matched pair of early eighteenth century candlesticks which are in a very desirable panelled octagonal style.

One is made in 1714 by Joseph Bird of London and the other in 1737 by John Eckfourd II of London.

They were presented in 1842 as a gift from the fellows and graduates of Brasenose College Oxford to Ashurst Turner Gilbert on his retirement from college duties and in that year he became Bishop of Chichester. Please see details in the pictures.

They are in good condition.
