Object Description
A Meissen porcelain bird model
German, late 19th Century
Height 15cm, width 15cm, depth 9cm
This elegant miniature, of a ptarmigan or similar species of bird, is a small and intricate porcelain model made by Meissen, the finest of all German porcelain makers, and dates to the late 19th century.
Bearing the cross swords mark in underglaze blue, it depicts a nervous and inquisitive small nesting or game bird, with bright red eyes and a purple-grey coat, standing upon a small white stump, turning its hard round to the left towards the viewer. Deftly painted in great detail, it exemplifies the charming aesthetic quality of German porcelain works, and makes for a welcome home accent and decorative addition.
