Object Description

The beautifully time-worn farmhouse black painted lath backed elm kitchen armchair, of good quality construction, having an elm slab saddle seat to turned arm supports and splayed legs, the whole surviving from the third quarter of the nineteenth century.

Object History

Unknown.

Object Literature

This is similar in design to that of an Oxford elbow chair with its lath back and proportions. It would have been a staple of the Victorian working farmhouse.

A particularly well-crafted and honest chair with a beautiful finish.

Object Condition

The chair is in good stable condition and can be used daily with solid joints and construction. It has a super colour and beautiful patina throughout.
