Object Description

The beautifully weathered cast stone British Bulldog displaying the original time worn white coat paint, with the dog having unusual glass eyes and a large black studded collar, to a shaped base, the whole surviving from the second quarter of twentieth century England.

Object History

Unknown.

Object Literature

There are more modern stone interpretations of the bulldog on the market, imitating this cast, but fewer of this date line and fewer still with such good original time-worn paintwork and texture.

The well-loved British Bulldog or ‘bully’ as they are fondly known are dependable, gentle dogs and they are notorious for snoring, grunting, drooling, and flatulence.

In a nice size, meaning he can be paced tabletop or out in the garden as intended.

Object Condition

The condition of the whole is pleasing with a good even spread of weathering commensurate with exposure to the elements giving it an evocative all-round character and colour. He appears to have been painted white originally, now wonderfully timeworn, and there is loss to the front left leg showing the metal armature; please refer to the photographs for a full visual reference. He remains very stable.
