A Napoleon III Ormolu-Mounted Marquetry Meuble d’Appui
Of bow fronted arc-en-arbalette outline, the cabinet constructed using several fine woods including birds’ eye maple, tulipwood, rosewood and harewood among others, dressed with gilt bronze mounts throughout, the top with a marquetry floral bouquet on birds’ eye ground with an ormolu stiff-leaf guard, above a frieze of conforming marquetry inlay, the double doors and sides having finely executed marquetry panels of blossoming flowers consisting of shaded and coloured specimen woods, the rounded corners with ormolu ribbon-tied musical trophies and an adjustable shelved interior finished with fine veneers.
