Object Description

The stylish and well-made library or side chairs in oak, having the original button-back black leather upholstery, now worn beautifully with age, each with a scrolled back and sprung seats, tapering front legs to rear block sabers, with original brass caps and castors to each, the wholes surviving from the zeniths of nineteenth century England.

Object History

Unknown.

Object Literature

These chairs would have been in the drawing room by the fire or library and would have been either side of, giving symmetry to the room and offering a seat for a read.

Beautifully untouched English country house period furniture.

Object Condition

The condition of both chairs is mainly good and entirely original, with a natural and honest patina to the soft leather with deep colour and some old hand-repairs to the leather as photographed. The sprung seats are in good sturdy order and the carcasses are sturdy. The brass castors are original, good quality and move freely.
