Object Description

A Pair of Empire Style Gilt and Patinated Bronze and Rouge Griotte Marble Seven-Light Candelabra.

These palatial sized candelabra date to the First Empire period. As becoming of Emperior Napoléon they are replete with heroic iconography drawn from the classical Roman world including Corinthian capitals to the columns, trumpet shaped branches and laurel wreath applied bases. They each have a columnar tapering patinated bronze shaft surmounted by a foliate and palmette cast capital supporting a globe and baluster-shaped vase issuing trumpet-shaped scrolling branches cast with foliate masks. Each column its fixed atop a rectangular rouge marble bases mounted with ribbon-tied oak leaf wreaths. Fitted for electricity.
