A Pair of Patinated Bronze Figural Lamps
After the model of Auguste Moreau
Each figure finely cast from bonze and with its original patination, one representing Moreau’s ‘Psyche and a Dove,’ and the other ‘Psyche blowing Kisses.’ Converted into lamps with the addition of moulded circular plinths, the bases of the bronze signed ‘Auguste Moreau.’

Auguste Moreau (1834-1917)
The name of ‘Moreau’ is synonymous with some of the finest sculpture of 19th century Belle Époque France. The youngest son of sculptor Jean-Baptiste Moreau, Auguste followed in his father’s footsteps alongside his elder brothers Hippolyte and Mathurin. Born in Dijon, he worked both in marble as well as bronze and was admired for his elegant and graceful compositions often featuring women and allegorical figures such as cupid. Auguste’s two sons also became sculptors, and the family dynasty is certainly among the most prolific, with examples found in major museums including the Musée d’Orsay in Paris, the Fine Arts museum of Bordeaux, and the Fine Arts museum of Dijon.
