Object Description
The fine and rare Queen Anne (1702-1714) burr and highly figured walnut kneehole desk.
Above six solid walnut bun feet and cross-grain ogee moulding, six small drawers surround a double dee moulded edged kneehole under two long drawers. The oak-lined drawers are veneered in fiddle-back walnut which has been book-matched and edged in feather-banding (fiddle-back veneer was the most highly prized and usually saved for making fine musical instruments). Similarly, the sides are book-matched in choice cuts of figured walnut, feather and crossbanded. Finally, the crossbanded and feather-banded top is beautifully veneered in three sections of burr walnut.
It should be noted that the cabinetwork is of the very highest quality throughout and all brass furniture and locks are original.
