Object Description

Of exceptional fine colour, worked in coloured wools on a fine cotton ground, designed with meandering fronds bearing foliage, flowers and buds including carnations, rosebuds, peonies and anenomes, framed.

Object History

Provenance: Label verso states ‘Laleham Abbey’ (Laleham Park/House), Surrey, built for 2nd Earl of Lucan, and discovered by a Mona Coumbe ‘under the cover of an old chair’ in 1972. This may account for the remarkable fresh condition of the panel, which consists of narrow joined sections of what were originally borders, probably from a set of bed hangings.

Object Condition

Available upon request.
