A Rare Monumental Cut-Crystal Twenty-Four-Light Chandelier, by F&C Osler

This rare electrolier or chandelier has a cut glass canopy and bowl form corona issuing six downward scrolling faceted arms with petal edged diamond-cut campana form shades, above a faceted baluster stem and corresponding diamond-cut circular receiver bowl issuing a further six massive ā€˜S’-scrolled arms each terminating in a vase with a facet-cut ball finial and three down turned candle arms with corresponding shades, the arms interspersed by glass scrolls, the receiver bowl terminating in a diamond-cut vase with a knop finial, the whole strung all over with festoons of flatback octagonal drops and hung with massive faceted pear shaped drops.

Object History

The firm of F & C Osler of London and Birmingham, were the leading makers of chandeliers and lighting during the nineteenth century. The glassworks were founded by Thomas Osler in 1807 in Birmingham and specialised in glass furniture and chandeliers for the overseas market.
