Object Description

The scarce pair of pottery or stone bird eggs, both beautifully proportioned and hand decorated with black specks to a buff ground, and surviving from nineteenth century England.

Object History

Unknown.

Object Literature

In the nineteenth century egg collecting was considered a hobby for gentlemen, but it was not for the faint of heart. Now, with the possession of wild birds’ eggs being an offence, this pair provide a tactile alternative.

It is rare to find examples such as this from this period; most faux wares are fruit or vegetables and we can’t find any such similar items having been sold.

As charming as they are rare.

Object Condition

Generally in very good condition each example has expected wear, though very minimal, and with no cracks or losses, just some small frits. The nest seen in the photo can be provided if so desired though is fragile.
