Object Description
This very unusual Victorian English Sterling Silver Ewer & Basin, was hallmarked in London in 1891 by Joseph & Horace Savory, trading as the Goldsmiths Alliance.
English silver Ewer & Basin examples are rare to find, the majority being produced in Europe or the Middle East.
The Ewer & Basin were made to be used during meals, when guests were offered scented water to wash their hands in between courses.
Examples created in precious metal were luxury items, produced mainly for use during important occasions, and at other times they would be displayed on a table at the side of the room.
