Object History

A deceased estate in Sussex.
Bears an old Christie’s stencilled stock number on reverse.
Hilder painted mainly in Kent and Sussex, exhibiting his landscapes at the principal London Societies between 1836 and1851. The present work is of unusual large size. He is famous for painting small pairs of rustic scenes which are often on wood panel.
