Object Description

From our collection of Japanese antique metalwork, this serene Okimono group, signed Hozan and depicting Jurojin (One of the Seven Lucky Gods of Japanese mythology) with his deer.

The figures stand on an attractive natural wood base. Jurojin stands holding a natural wood staff, his hand outstretched to his Deer companion who is looking up at him.

Jurojin is the Japanese God of Longevity and the elderly. He is tall and has an elongated head. He is often seen with a Deer and he carries a scroll which is said to contain the life expectancy of all living things.
