Made during Japan’s prolific years of artistic production and cultural, social, economic, and political change, these exceptional woodblock prints, eight in total, depict a series of beautiful female figures, in sumptuous garments and dresses, in idyllic Japanese settings and engaged in the pleasures of aristocratic lifestyle. The Meiji period say a vast increase in the production of works such as these prints, which in turn had a significant impact on European art from the nineteenth century onwards. This beautiful set, a calming collection of portraits and decorative works, are an eminently desirable collection of these fine works.
