Object Description
A set of four foliage botanical engravings from L’illustration Horticole. A monthly horticultural review introducing the most notable plants and flowers; both prize winning specimens and newly discovered plants from the far reaches of the globe, brought forth to Europe for taxonomy and cultivation, especially showy-leaved plants and Orchids. Illustrations were by A.Goossens, chromolithograph by P.de Pannemaeker making it a colour fast expensive form of printing. Published between 1860-90 chromo by P.de Pannemaeker after Goossens for ‘L’illustration Horticole’. Pannemaeker was one of the leading artists of this time when Ghent became the horticultural centre of Europe.
Framed in a hand gilded and painted frame with wash line mounts and marbled borders.
