Object Description
A set of four Louis XVI style giltwood fauteuils
French, Early 20th century
Height 92cm, width 60cm, depth 55cm
These beautiful fauteuils – armchairs with open sides and upholstered arms, typical of Louis XV and XVI styles – were crafted in the early twentieth century, and are designed in a refined, Neoclassical manner, with restrained and yet effective ornamentation. The pieces consist of oval backs, decorated with carved and gilt ribbons and flowers, mounted upon tapering stop-fluted legs, with more recent upholstery in cream cut velvet, which affords the chairs a certain modernity and vitality that makes them fit for purpose and use, as well as aesthetically beautiful pieces.
