Object Description
A small 17th century Italian polychrome sarcophagus shaped cassone. The front and side facades decorated with painted foliate panels with the central panel having a cherubs winged head. The panels are segregated by reeded columns and rope twist edges. The heavy silvered mouldings with a further painted rail above later silvered feet. The heavily silver moulded and painted lid , opens to reveal the original interior candle box and later hinges, the lock lost in time.
This is a fantastic piece of furniture and quite rare to find being polychromed and of small proportions.
The cassone is in excellent condition.
