Object Description
A striking and unusual pair of early 20th century Alfred Dunhill dragon-form smoker’s stands, stamped “Alfred Dunhill London New York” and corresponding to the Adrian C. Scharff U.S. patent of 1928.
Constructed in gilt and bronzed metal, the stands feature circular trays with patented tilting ash receivers and removable liners, supported by stylised dragon columns raised on tripod foliate bases. Both retain a superb sculptural presence, combining the theatrical glamour of the Art Deco period with the refined luxury associated with Dunhill’s interwar smoking accessories.
Increasingly rare individually, and exceptionally scarce as a true matching pair, these remarkable stands transcend their original function and today serve as highly decorative interior statement pieces.
Circa 1928–1930.
