Object Description

A Substantial Drum Table
In the Georgian Manner
Attributed to Gillows

Constructed from superb figured mahogany, the circular table top with a moulded edge; below, the frieze enclosing lockable drawers with quadrant mouldings and ebonised cockbeading, supported on a single flared triform pedestal with carved volutes and acanthus leaves, the incurved plinth with carved lion paw feet concealing brass castors.
English, circa 1890

Undoubtedly inspired by the most fashionable Regency period furniture of the early 19th century, this table combines great design with superb craftsmanship. Drum tables of this kind were made by craftsmen such as George Bullock and companies such as Gillows, who had access to the best available timbers on the market.
