Object Description
A pristine French mantel clock dated c.1890, the tortoiseshell bell top case in immaculate original condition and with a deep red lustre.
The eight day gong striking movement has a lever platform escapement, the backplate signed for Samuel Marti, Medaille d’Argent. Marti was presented with the silver medal in 1889, and they received the gold medal in 1900, so this clock dates between the two.
The 4½ inch convex white enamel dial has Arabic numerals and floral swags, and is signed for Collingwood & Co.,a retail jewellers shop at 46 Conduit Street, Regent Street London from c.1856 to 1938.
Intricate gilt matching hands.
The case is mounted with an ormolu swing handle and four covered urn finials over rosettes with glass panel sides and beaded turned feet.
