Object Description

The well-made country house type easy armchair, of very deep and roomy proportions, being coil sprung and horsehair stuffed and presented in the original faded ivory chintz floral ticking fabric, on turned oak legs to brass collars and composition casters, the whole surviving from high Victorian England.

Object History

Unknown.

Object Literature

A rare beast of a country house armchair in its originality and that it is both incredibly beautiful and just as comfortable.

Object Condition

The condition of the armchair is sound, with the original horsehair and innards having been retained. The frame is good quality and remains sturdy and strong. It proves wonderfully comfortable with the low deep seat typical of the style. The fabric is original and fabulous and has a lovely fade to it but it has suffered some tears, with some patched repairs to each arm end with slightly later fabric, as photographed.
