A Very Rare and Pretty Little Tortoiseshell Box with Silver Mounts; 17th Century Mexico

Object Description

The tortoiseshell most likely imported from the Spanish colonies in the Philippines to Mexico, cut and polished there into very thin slices making them almost opaque. The piece is 9.3cms in width, 3.8cms in height and 6.8cms in depth.
