Object Description
Of rectangular form this cistern is dated 1691 with initials I J E, these typically being the owner or the giver of a marriage gift. Three parterre form decorative devices divide the front panel with the same device returning to the left flank. The right flank being blank, indicating its use as a cistern would most likely to have been in a corner of a building. Embellishments include: putto riding dolphins and a central depiction of Fame (within ovals), star fish, fish, Fleur-de-lys, thistles and a garlanded crown insignia.
