Object Description
Good 18th century George 3rd mahogany and boxwood line inlaid bureau in lovely original condition. The bureau has 4 longs drawers which are pine lined with original steel locks and lovely original brass swan neck handles. The bureau stands on its original nice shape bracket feet. The bureau fall is cross banded and it has its original brass lock with working key. The bureau interior is also extremely pleasing with central cupboard door with drawers inside, leather bound book secret pull outs to either side and drawers and pigeon holes to either side. All the interior drawers have their original brass handles.
The bureau is in good “Country house” condition. The cock beading round the drawers is a bit worn and chipped but would look worce if it was replaced. The fall is a bit warped but we have improved it significantly so it nearly closes flat and there is some scratching to the top. All the drawers have been re-runnered so they all move in and out smoothly.
The bureau is a very nice mellow colour with original patination and waxed finish.
