Object Description

This superb armorial cast George II silver basket was made in London in 1750 by Samuel Courtauld and measures13.75 inches in length by 12.5 at it’s widest and stands 3.5 inches tall (10.5 with handle raised) It is beautifully pierced and engraved and has a central shaped and florid cartouche surrounding a coat of arms, it has a pierced grape and vine and scrolled acanthus leaf border, the swing handle is secured by large leaf designs either side leading to a classical bust of a lady either side on the handle, the handle across is plain with the exception of a centre cartouche bearing the same coat of arms and it stands on 4 large scrolled leaf designed feet, it is fully hallmarked under the base and weighing 58.10 ounces or 1806 grams and is in excellent condition, a truly very fine piece of silver.
