Object Description

The low-set three seater settee in olive suede with double piping to a satinwood showframe, hailing from the Art Deco period, the wonderfully elegant whole of canted angular form with swept arms, surviving from the second quarter of the twentieth century and ex Gordon Watson stable.

Object History

Ex Gordon Watson.

Object Literature

The term Art Deco encompasses the distinctive styles in art, architecture and design, and is typified by bright bold colours, and stylized designs derived from the onset of industrialism, as well as artistic movements such as modernism, cubism, and futurism. It is one of the best loved, most influential, instantly recognisable, international, and elegant of all artistic periods.

A stylish settee, reminiscent of the period and in a rare shape, drawn ever so well.

Object Condition

The sofa has always been low seated, with the suede in decent overall order, with some marks here and there to both the satinwood and the fabric and two or three small incisions. The two scatter cushions are present. IT could of course be re-upholstered. We had to administer a repair to one of the back legs and respring one section of the base so she is now ready to go.
