Object Description

From our collection of antique Oriental ceramics, this late 19th Century Japanese Satsma plate with an intriguing decoration featuring a large and splendid Peacock. The bird is sitting on the branches of a flowering Cherry blossom in the foreground. A seprarte, smaller square panel shows a Bijin sitting in a lavish home creating a simplistic Ikebana display. Behind her, an elderly teacher looks on.

On a shelf behind the figures sits a doll of Fukurokuju.

The dish bares the mark of the Yasuda Company to the reverse.
