The very pretty painted pine hanging corner cupboard, showing the original hand decorated finish now distressed commensurate with age, having a pair of panelled doors with knob handle each decorated on an ivory ground with floral spandrels to the corners to central bouquets, with a shaped frieze and peg feet, enclosing an arrangement of two shaped shelves, the whole surviving from the second quarter of the nineteenth century.

Its origins could well be Dutch or more eastern European, equally just as it could be French or even Romany, though this misses the point, it is extremely attractive in any case.
The first mention of corner cupboards appears to have been made in an advertisement of a Dutch joiner in 1711, these cupboards, with their carved pediments being part of the modern fittings of a room in the time of Queen Anne.
Bohemian and brilliantly beautiful.
With the original paintwork being retained the piece is wonderfully original, suggestive and decorative. The cupboard is in the sort of original condition that is hard to find and desirable as such with the only noticeable addition being the top which is probably later. There is the typical gnarled loss to the feet – she could be sat on the floor just as easy as being wall hung. The interior does have cut outs where the previous owner has obviously stored electrical equipment inside. She is sturdy and ready to use with very old and pretty wallpaper covering the interior.
