Object Description

The unique scratch-built primitive folk art model of a farmhouse cottage, with shuttered windows and blue front door to a tiled roof, the whole in wood and plaster with original hand-painted decoration and surviving from the first quarter of twentieth century England.

Object History

Unknown.

Object Literature

Pieces of folk art are ephemeral, simple, and often crude, though they are always enchanting. They were made by unskilled people, usually provincially, for everyday use and enjoyment, and are naively decorated, and made of basic materials. Folk art provides an excellent insight into the everyday life of ordinary people in times of old, and for that reason we love it.

This charming object would have probably been made by a doting father to his child and for that reason we love it.

Object Condition

The condition of the house is complete with some small losses as photographed largely to the reverse of the roof. There is some historic worm and the top hinge to the door is faulty.
