Object Description

The beautifully time-worn and paint splattered comb-work painted pine carcass, at six feet wide, having a later one plank top, over an arrangement of three long graduated drawers to each flank, to one short drawer to the centre over a central fielded panelled lockable cupboard with internal shelf, each with largely the original knob handles, the whole standing on a plinth base and surviving in largely original condition from the very early Victorian period.

Object History

Unknown.

Object Literature

This dresser base almost has the feel of a shop counter in its configuration, and its comb-work decoration would have been more evident at the time of its conception.

A very decorative and useful piece of good deep and large proportions.

Object Condition

The base shows some attractive wear and tear with scuffing and losses commensurate with its age, with the carcass structurally sound, and we have administered a going over of the internals so she is sound throughout whilst leaving the desirable cosmetics untouched. The knobs are largely original and the top is later and then having been matched in.
