Object Description

From our collection of antique Japanese ceramics, this attractive Satsuma Koro dating from the Meiji-era (around 1880).

Decorated with finely painted panels of figures in landscapes and classical Japanese scenes of serenity. The paintings sit on a classic dark blue ground, synonymous with the producer of this Koro, the world-renowned Kinkozan Company of Kyoto. The blue ground is then paintined with elaborate, Gold swirling geometric patterns.

The cover is delicately pierced in a design reminiscent of the Chrysanthemum, (the emblem of the Emperor)

The Koro stands on four feet and is signed Kinkozan to the underside.
