Object Description

From our collection of fine metalware of the late 19th Century, this elegant, naturally-worked Silver Okimono of a Goose. The legs and feet made of Bronze and wings, tucked away and decorated with colourful enamels. The eyes of the bird inlaid with Gilt and Shakudo.

This Okimono also acts as a Koro (incense burner) as a small, concealed section of the plumage on its back is pierced, raised and removable revealing a small chamber for the burning of incense.

Object Condition

Offered in fine condition and signed “Issei Zo” to the underside. The artist “Gyokotsai Issei” is recorded as living in Asakusa, Tokyo and was a maker of fine Silver Okimono of birds.
