Object Description

From our collection of antique Japanese ceramics, this exceptional earthenware pottery Satsuma hexagonal-form Koro.

Each side of the Koro features a beautifully painted panel as detailed below:

A group of well-dressed Bijin

An attractive Ikebana and Bonsai display

A group of opulently-dressed men and women in a market place setting

A couple standing by a pavilion surrounded by a mountainous landscape

A group of seated young women and girls

Butterflies flying amongst Wisteria

The shoulders of the Koro with a Mille fleur decoration and the neck is painted with fine repeated geometric patterns.

The cover with fine, pierced “honey-comb” decoration. The Koro stands on six feet and is signed to the underside.
