Object Description

From our collection of antique Chinese and Japanese ceramics, this interesting pair of Meiji-era (1868-1912) Satsuma vases. One vase depicts the legendary female warrior (Onna-Musha) Tomoe-Gozen. She is on horse-back and holding a Naginata with a bow and arrow over her shoulder as she looks across to General Yoshinaka (also on horse-back) on the other vase.
